Introduction

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification was launched in 1989 in direct response to the criteria set out in the HSC/Sports Council guidance 'Safety in swimming pools'. Now in it's 7th revision, this edition meets all the criteria that are set out in the guidance published by the 'Health & Safety in Swimming Pools', (HSG179/2003) as they relate to training and certification for swimming pool lifeguards. The qualification has been incorporated into the National Qualifications Framework as the Level 2 Certificate in Swimming Pool Supervision & Rescue.

The ISRM and IQL are joint custodians for this qualification, IQL lending it's expertise in 'Life Saving and Swimming Pool Supervision' to Unit 1 and the ISRM taking responsibility for the 'Application of Supervision and Rescue' in a Swimming Pool as covered by Unit 2 of the qualification.

ISRM/RLSS 7th Edition Unit 2 Tutor Award Course

This course is for existing Unit 2 Trainer Assessors who wish to be able to train their own Unit 2 TAs. All tutors must become members of the ISRM and the fees include the initial membership costs.

It is a 2 day residential course and is part of the ISRM tutor training programme, which requires the highest standard of knowledge to support the delivery of training.

The 2 days will include sessions on delivery styles, a professional discussion and a 1 hour presentation by the candidate. However, options are available for Unit 1 NTAs, to attend for the second day only, should they choose to do so.
